What's Happening in Assam
Since late April, monsoon flooding has been affecting hundreds of thousands of people across 25 districts of Assam. On July 19th, a cloudburst sent a sudden wall of water through Upper Assam. Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat are experiencing their worst flooding in decades, with the Dikhow River breaching its extreme flood level. More than 700,000 people have been affected in this latest wave alone, and at least 60 lives have been claimed.
Thousands of families are in relief camps. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed or damaged. Crops, livestock, roads, and rail lines have been submerged under water. We cannot overstate the immediate need for dry food, safe drinking water, tarpaulins, medicine, and hygiene supplies.
